Murivecchi: Reviews & Ratings

We loved this restaurant right across the street from the wonderful chic&basic Born hotel. The pizzas are absolutely terrific. Several couples each ordered their own--though one is plenty for two. Our salad had more ingredients than a farmers' market and was delicious. The server even brought bread along with olive oil and two different vinegars to our table. And after all that I also ordered the wild boar and mushroom tagliatelle--too good to pass up, even though I was full from the pizza. Amazing! This is a bistro I wish was around the corner from my home in North Carolina. I'd go all the time. Some have criticized the staff, which we did find a bit indifferent. But don't let that deter you. This restaurant is a treasure. It gets crowded (naturally!) after 7:30 so make a reservation if you plan on eating late.

We had two fantastic waiters, Alex and Max, who were incredibly attentive and very helpful with any questions we had about the menu. Food was delicious, I had a pizza which was great but I will definitely be back to try the pasta as other guests food looked amazing! Would highly recommend getting one of the starters which is like a pizza puff type thing, stuffed with mozzarella and mortadella, star of the show and it was amazing. Definitely worth trying this place out!

My partner and I ordered the focaccia, tagliatelle con salciccia napoletana, and pappardelle con ragú. The focaccia was in fact pizza crust and not real focaccia — would recommend changing the name of this dish as it is misleading. The tagliatelle was very good and would recommend, however, the pappardelle was not the greatest. The tiramisu was fantastic and the ambiance was perfect.

Murivecchi, nestled in the vibrant heart of Ciutat Vella on Carrer de la Princesa, offers a gastronomic journey that celebrates authentic Italian flavors with a Catalan twist. This charming bistro, located just across from the chic&basic Born hotel, is a beacon for pizza and pasta lovers alike. The moment you walk in, the cozy ambiance invites you to slow down and savor each bite.

The pizzas at Murivecchi are nothing short of spectacular—thin-crusted, flavorful, and perfectly baked. Whether shared or savored alone, each pie delivers a satisfying mix of traditional toppings with fresh, high-quality ingredients. One visitor fondly recalls the salads, describing them as bursting with variety, almost like a farmers' market on the plate, elevating the meal with crisp, vibrant freshness.

For pasta enthusiasts, Murivecchi is a must-visit. The tagliatelle con salciccia napoletana is a standout, its rich, hearty sauce complementing perfectly al dente noodles. The wild boar and mushroom tagliatelle also steals the spotlight—a dish so indulgent and flavorful it’s worth ordering even when already full. While not every pasta dish hits the mark—such as the less favored pappardelle con ragú—the quality and passion behind many of the pasta offerings are unmistakable.

Small touches enhance the dining experience, though feedback shows room for refinement. Bread served tableside comes with olive oil and vinegar, though some guests noted these accompaniments are sometimes offered only upon request—an easy fix to match the hospitality level the food promises. Service quality opinions vary, with some praising the attentive waiters like Alex and Max, while others have felt the staff occasionally rushed guests or lacked warmth. Despite this, the food remains the undeniable treasure guests return for.

Dive into starters like the mozzarella and mortadella-stuffed pizza puff, which has garnered rave reviews and is often described as the star of the show—a perfect preview of the meal to come. End your meal on a sweet note with a fantastic tiramisu that captures the essence of Italian dessert with delicate balance and creaminess.

In essence, Murivecchi is a culinary gem that embraces simplicity and quality. Its inviting atmosphere, combined with outstanding pizzas and pasta, makes it a memorable dining spot in Barcelona’s bustling Ciutat Vella district. Whether you’re craving a rustic tagliatelle or an inventive pizza, this bistro rewards exploration and promises a sincere taste of Italy, right in the heart of Spain.
